Making bread

These are the supplies I use to make Amish White Bread

Start with 2 cups hot water, put in 2/3 cup of sugar. Mix until dissolved. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of yeast. I use these packets

Mix until it looks like this, kind of milky

Let stand about 10 minutes while yeast proofs or activates

Pour into mixer. I use my kitchen aid mixer with hook attachement-if you don't have one. Use regular mixer until you have to kneed the dough. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of salt and 1/4 cup of oil. Mix well. Add 6 cups of bread flour-adding one cup at a time.

It will look like this. Take it out and kneed it for about 15 minutes on a floured surface. This is where I usually take out my days grumpiness.

Put in greased bowl

I cover with foil and a wet cloth so that it can rise. I leave it alone for one hour. This is the time that I put everything away and clean the kitchen except for my kneeding board and a little more flour

After 1 hour it looks like this hopefully. Bread has a learning curve that I learned from "My goodfriend Marybeth". So, if yours does not turn out the like it should the first time. Join the club, my first bread look like a baseball bat.

This next step in fun. Punch a hole in risen dough and take it out and kneed to again for about another 15 minutes.

Place it in a greased 9x5 bread loaf pan. As you can see I have one glass and one Pampered Chef stone. I can not tell any difference in the way they bake or taste.

Let sit again for another 30 minutes to rise again. This is when I clean the kitchen and pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. I cover mine back up again, but I don't think it is neccesary.

This is what they look like when I take them out after 30 minutes of baking. I like to let them sit for a few minutes so that they slice easier. Sometimes they don't make it that long, the house smells so good that the family usually is in the kitchen before the timer goes off. I know this looks like alot of steps, but believe me when I say it is worth it. This bread is great for sandwiches, toast is amazing and I now have to double the recipe to make 4 at a time. It does not make it long in my house. Thanks for letting me share and I hope you try making bread soon.
